Why buy second-hand for your wedding outfit??

In recent years, buying your wedding outfit second-hand has become a much more popular choice for people. Here are a few of my favourite reasons why you should consider it too.

Reason one: Affordability. 

New garments are certainly gorgeous, but the price tag that often comes with them isn’t. Whether it doesn’t fit your budget, or is simply not where you want to spend such a big chunk of money, buying second-hand guarantees a lower cost. 

Reason two: Sustainability.

Every year thousands of wedding dresses are discarded via landfill, some never even worn. Buying second-hand provides the opportunity to save a truly special garment from such a disastrous fate. 

Reason three: It’s one day. (And what a special day at that!)

Traditionally, a person’s wedding outfit was either the fanciest dress they already owned, or a new dress that could be worn again to fancy events. Nowadays, this is much less common practice. 

The majority of wedding dresses are worn once and then put into storage for coming years, with no guarantee they will ever be worn again. And for such a gorgeous (and often expensive) garment, what a shame that can be! Choosing a second-hand outfit means giving it another chance to dazzle! 

Finally, reason four: Timeless style. 

Trends are known to come and go, but many forget that they also often circle back around. 2025 saw a surge in wedding styles previously considered “vintage” and “retro” returning to the market. Vogue Australia has shared in a recent article that they see this trend remaining and continuing into 2026. Personally, I believe this provides the perfect opportunity for older second-hand garments to shine. An authentic piece of history, back in fashion, ready to be lightly adapted and amaze once more! Though let's be real, did they ever really go out of style?
